Cold weather is making way for warmer days, the sun is rising earlier, farmers are making their way into the fields to prepare for another growing season, and the 21st season of the Original Farmers’ Market at the Indianapolis City Market is almost here.
The Original Farmers’ Market takes place every Wednesday, May 2, through October, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Located outside the Indianapolis City Market, the Original Farmers’ Market provides Indy residents, workers, and visitors the opportunity to purchase fresh produce, frozen meats, eggs, flowers, and more.
“Since 1998, the Original Farmers’ Market has provided quality products from local farmers and producers for all those who inhabit Indianapolis. Our vendors offer a large selection of everything from fresh produce to baked goods.” said Stevi Stoesz, executive director of the Indianapolis City Market. “Programs that we offer such as SNAP, Fresh Bucks, and Gleaning Foods Program allow us to provide quality products to those who need it the most while supporting some of Indiana’s best small businesses.”
Stoesz said the City Market is ecstatic to continue various placemaking and space activation projects to encourage new patrons to visit the historic site.
Those who use SNAP benefits will be able to once again double their spending up to $20 through using Fresh Bucks .
In addition, the Buy 2 Give 1 program encourages individuals to buy additional products for those who are in need of fresh, healthy products. All of the donations are made at the City Market tent (located in front of the City Market House’s Market Street doors) during market hours and are given to one of three Downtown homeless missions to prepare healthy meals for those in need.
