National Night Out has been staged across the nation – and in several Urban Times neighborhoods – for years, but 2018 marks the first time the event to promote police-community relations has come to Mass Ave.

The inaugural Mass Ave event, centered at Rooster’s Kitchen on the East End, included a visit by Mayor Joe Hogsett. Others included Commander Chad Knecht of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Downtown District and Commander Phillip Burton of the Indianapolis Fire Department’s Downtown District. Numerous officers from the Downtown District were also on hand.

The event staged on Tuesday, Aug. 7, was organized by the Mass Ave Merchants Association.
