 Robots After Noon in the Learning Curve

Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Families are invited to try a variety of robotics technology and practice programming. With various robots and games available each week, families can try something new or dive deeper into a favorite.

 How to Use the Keyboard and Mouse: Introduction to Computers

Sept. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Adults with little or no experience in using a computer are invited to the Computer Training Lab to learn to use the computer mouse and keyboard, a needed skill to use a computer and the Internet.

 Microsoft Word 2010 Basics

Sept. 4 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Learn how to write letters, resumes, papers, and other documents. Before taking this class, to be held in the Computer Training Lab, you should be comfortable using a mouse and keyboard.

 Project Gifted Gown

Sept. 4 from 4 to 7 p.m.

High school students attending homecoming are invited to shop for the event. All gender identities are welcome. This program is presented by the non-profit Gifted Gown.

 Internet Basics

Sept. 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Find out what you can do with the Internet. Learn to use links, read Internet addresses, save addresses for future visits, and search the web.

 eBook Tinker Station

Sept. 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Learn how to read, watch and listen on a PC, tablet or phone, as well as search and download materials from the Library’s extensive collection of eBooks, eAudiobooks and digital music.

 Organize and Protect Your Computer

Sept. 5 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Learn to manage your computer files, improve computer performance, and protect your computer from unwanted files and software. Prior to this class you should be comfortable using a mouse and keyboard.

 Little Learners Storytime

Sept. 6, 13, 20 & 27 from 11 a.m. to noon.

Little Learners up to age 5 and their families are invited for story time in the Green Screen Theater. They’ll read stories, sing songs, and rhyme. Stay after to play.

 Computer Club in the Makerspace on the 1st Floor

Sept. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Learn about computer hardware by actually disassembling and reassembling a PC. Participants will also learn to install the Linux Ubuntu operating system.

 IndyPL Film QLUB

Sept. 8 at 2 p.m.

Adults and teens ages 17 and up are invited to view and discuss LGBTQ-themed movies. The film to be shown is Sunday Bloody Sunday (NR).

 Gmail Basics

Sept. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Learn to manage an email account, send files and keep your inbox free of spam email. This class, to be held in the Computer Training Lab, requires experience using the mouse, keyboard and Internet.

 Online Safety & Privacy

Sept. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m.

How to protect yourself from dishonest practices on the Internet. To take this class, you must have a sound understanding of the keyboard, mouse, Internet and email.

 Game Night at Central

Sept. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Have fun with giant-sized games and enjoy a collection of over 120 classic and modern board, card and dice games for kids and adults alike.

 Coloring Café

Sept. 9 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Adults are invited to experience the latest trend in relaxation and fun: coloring. Enjoy warm beverages and soothing music while coloring on pages designed for adults. Colored pencils are provided.

 Microsoft Powerpoint 2010 Basics

Sept. 10 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Learn to create presentations and standalone slideshows for work, school or personal use. Before taking this class you should be comfortable using Microsoft Word.

 The Black Women’s Writing Society

Sept. 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Join members of the Black Women’s Writing Society who share a love for the written word. Poets, playwrights, essayists and storytellers are invited to gather in the Center for Black Literature & Culture for sessions that include time for writing, education and sharing.

 Lucha Libro: Print Making for Teens and Adults

Sept. 10 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Adults and teens are invited to join La Sardina Gallery for a unique Lucha Libre experience. They’ll learn about Lucha Libre’s history and culture, hear an excerpt from a novel about Luchadores, participate in a thumb wrestling match, and create a one-of-a-kind Luchador-themed print. This program is for teens only and will be held in the Learning Curve.

If you are comfortable using Microsoft Word, learn to use some of its more advanced features. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word is necessary for this class.

Sept. 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Learn the first steps in using the Wix program’s free drag-and-drop editor and templates for creating a customized website. No coding knowledge is required.

 Introduction to Photoshop Using Photoshop Elements 9

Sept. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Learn how to edit personal photos and create original images using Photoshop Elements 9. This class requires experience with a keyboard, mouse and USB file management.

 How to Build a Nonprofit Organization Series / Fearless Asking: How to Build an Individual Giving Program

Sept. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Learn to understand the basics of an annual giving program and practice asking with confidence. This workshop is best for those who have already established their nonprofit organization.

Sept. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Adults who have taken the PowerPoint Basics class will learn to insert sounds, video, animation and images into presentations, and then further customize them with PowerPoint’s formatting tools.

Get help organizing your pictures, downloading and deleting apps, backing up pictures and contacts online, using the touch screen effectively, and managing your device’s storage.

Adults who want to make high quality images, newsletters or flyers that can be shared easily are invited to learn about Canva.

 Celebrate the Seasons: Seasonal Crafting Program

Adults are invited to join the librarians to create gifts and decorations for home that can be enjoyed throughout the year. This program will be held the Library’s Makerspace.

 2019 Photography Workshop Series with the Riviera Camera Club

Sept. 23 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Those interested in learning to create better images are invited to develop their photography skills from expert photographers from the Riviera Camera Club. Discover how to make food and beverage photos interesting and appealing with Dave Pluimer in the Riley Meeting Room.

Microsoft OneDrive and Office Online are free and accessible from any device with an Internet connection. Learn about the free online versions of Microsoft Office applications.

Adults ages 18 and older are invited to learn the basics of 3D printing from concept to creation using Tinkercad and the 3D Systems Cube Printer. Dream it, design it, print it.
