
The former home of Mo’ Joe’s Coffeehouse at 222 W. Michigan St. will soon offer patrons another form of relief: medical.
IU Health plans to open an urgent care facility the week of Dec. 30. The 3,000-square-foot facility, which also used to house a collegiate bookstore, will feature six exam rooms and x-ray equipment. The center will handle both urgent care and occupational health needs.
There’s also a high-tech element to the new facility: Urgent care users will be able to view wait times and save their spot in line on the IU Health website: iuhealth.org/urgentcare. They will receive text message updates about their position in line.
Among the ailments which can be treated include abdominal pain or stomach aches, allergic reactions, common cold, earache, flu-like symptoms, headaches, sinus infections, strep and sore throat, tonsillitis, upper respiratory infections and urinary tract infections.
Also, fractures, minor burns, minor joint pain, sprains or strains, cholesterol screening, flu shots, sports and work physicals, stitches and digital X-ray, and STD testing.
Clinical services offered include injury treatment, fit-for-duty exams, drug and alcohol testing, return-to-work exams, physical exams, tuberculosis screening, vaccination programs. immunizations, EKGs, digital X-rays, routine blood analysis, lab tests and urinalysis.
Hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The IU Health facility is located just east of the Downtown Canal, across from Kroger supermarket. IU Health only other Indianapolis urgent care center is located in Broad Ripple. Others are located in Greenwood, Avon, Brownsburg, Noblesville, Bloomington and Fort Wayne.
