Basketball is subject of latest ‘Shining a Light’ presentation

A new light, sound and video projection, Indiana’s Game: A Ball, a Basket and a Dream!, has been developed to honor the city’s and Central Indiana’s hosting of this year’s NCAA “March Madness” tournament, as well as the state’s annual high school tournaments.

The projection is built in three parts:

• Part 1 – Childhood Dreaming. Saturday, Feb. 27 – March 13 (starts with Girls High School State Finals) – The dreams and experiences of youth.

• Part 2 – Success, Tournament, Performing. March 14 – 31 (added to Part 1 starting Selection Sunday) – Hard work and determination is rewarded.

• Part 3 – The Meaning of Legacy. April 1 – 5 (added to Parts 1 and 2 prior to Final Four weekend) – Remembering the stories that shaped us, we pass down the legacy and look forward to the heroes to come.

The video briefly presents the story of what growing up with the game of basketball means to Hoosiers. The projection’s poetic voiceover narration is accompanied by rousing music and sounds of the game, creating an experience that shares the beauty of our story – and how basketball is truly part of being a Hoosier.

The Indiana’s Game presentation will also include historic images of team basketball in the Hoosier state, along with projected images from local artists celebrating our civic pride in basketball and our capital city.

This artistic presentation is occurring three times nightly through April 5 on Monument Circle (after the patriotic Signature Salute at 8:45, 9:45 and 10:45 p.m.) where its illustrative visual style links three parts together that will transport the viewer through the life cycle of those who play and love the game of basketball.

“We’re thrilled that the Shining A Light technology can be shared with our community and visitors during this historic month of basketball in Downtown Indianapolis,” said Sherry Seiwert, president of Downtown Indy, Inc. “With nearly 100 college basketball games being played in Central Indiana, along with our girls and boys high school state finals and some great Pacers action, we can’t wait for thousands of fans to witness and find themselves represented in this unique presentation.”
