Just a day after announcing that the New York Street shutdown at Interstates 65/70 would probably begin Sunday, the Indiana Department of Transportation has postponed that action until “on or after” Monday, Aug. 2. In anticipation of this closure, traffic patterns on local streets in the area will also shift.
New York Street will be closed between East Street and Pine Street, although motorists wishing to travel northbound can use New York Street to access College Avenue. All eastbound vehicular traffic wishing to continue on New York Street will be directed south onto Ohio Street. All pedestrian traffic will be redirected to Vermont Street. The closure will continue through Aug. 10, weather permitting.
Also, beginning today (July 23), local access traffic patterns on Davidson Street will shift. To prep for this shift, Davidson Street from Michigan to New York streets were closed overnight Thursday for crews to implement the traffic pattern change.
Local access to residents and businesses between East and Davidson streets will be maintained. During the closure of New York Street, local street parking will be temporarily restricted on Davidson Street. Traffic flow in the area will be monitored throughout the duration of the closure.
INDOT also announced that the overnight closures on Saint Clair Street under the I-65 southbound collector/distributor will continue until July 26. That closure will be in effect each night from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Access to downtown Indianapolis will be maintained via:
*I-70 westbound exit ramp to Michigan or Ohio St.
*Pine St. entrance ramp to I-70 eastbound from Ohio St. and Michigan St.
*I-65 northbound/I-70 eastbound exit ramp to Washington St.
*I-65 northbound and southbound to Martin Luther King. Jr./West St.
*I-65 southbound to Meridian St.
*All existing ramps on I-70 west of the South Split
