Hotel, residences coming to old City Hall site

The city’s announcement regarding what’s happening to the old City Hall and the parking lot next door should bring smiles to the site’s Firehouse Square neighbors.

Those folks see the coming construction project as a remedy for the homeless who camp out on the historic building’s steps.

But for the Downtown itself, the news is much much bigger: A 32-story tower with 190 residential units —  but more importantly, other floors to become a 21c Museum Hotel, a facility which will also use the old City Hall as hospitality venue and home to much of the art which fits its theme.

Watch this space for more details of the$140 million plan, a joint venture of 21c Museum Hotels and the locally based TWG Development.
