The International Violin Competition of Indianapolis will host its sold-out season finale at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at The Cabaret.
The program will feature 2014 Silver Medalist Tessa Lark and pianist Peter Dugan. Time for Three’s Charles Yang, originally scheduled to perform, has withdrawn due to an unforeseen family matter, and will be replaced by clarinetist Mark Dover.
Lark, a Grammy-nominated violinist, is a frequent guest of the IVCI’s Laureate Series and a city favorite. Known not only for her technical and elegant classical artistry, she is a highly acclaimed improviser and fiddler in the tradition of her native Kentucky. Lark was also recently named Artistic Director of the Moab Music Festival.
Clarinetist Mark Dover will return to The Cabaret stage, replacing violinist/vocalist Charles Yang for this performance. Well-versed in many realms of music, Dover has firm roots in classical music as well as jazz and improvisation. He has appeared as soloist with the Atlanta, Baltimore and Albany symphonies and is a member of the Imani Wind quintet, with whom he won a Grammy Award in 2024 as musician and producer.
Pianist Peter Dugan is a pianist, composer and frequent collaborator and has toured extensively with violinist Joshua Bell. In addition to concertizing, he is heard nationwide as host of NPR’s “From the Top.” He has performed in venues around the world as pianist and composer, most notably Carnegie Hall and Joe’s Pub in New York. While also steeply rooted in classical, he is comfortable improvising with the likes of Lark and Dover, with whom he has collaborated in the past. This will be Peter’s third appearance on the Laureate Series at The Cabaret.
