Knit One, Crochet Too, March 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Adults are invited to Central Library’s Makerspace for a night of fiber crafts and fun. Bring your current work in progress or start something new. Basic materials will be available for beginners. All skill levels are welcomed.

How to Build a Nonprofit Organization Series – Strategic Planning for Beginners, March 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Learn about what strategic plans are, why your nonprofit needs one, and how to start creating one.

Classical Concerts at Central, March 8 at 2 p.m. Adults and families are invited to experience the dynamic world of chamber music with members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. This program is made possible by Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

Coloring Café, March 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Adults are invited to experience the latest trend in relaxation and fun: coloring! Enjoy warm beverages and soothing music while coloring on pages designed for adults. Colored pencils are provided.

How to Build a Nonprofit Organization Series – Introduction to Foundation Directory Online, March 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Learn about Foundation Directory Online (FDO), a research tool that can help 501(c)3 nonprofits find the grant-makers most likely to fund their projects. Learn how to research and evaluate potential grant-makers in FDO. This class is for 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations looking for funding.

The Black Women’s Writing Society, March 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Join members of the Black Women’s Writing Society who share a love for the written word. Poets, playwrights, essayists and storytellers are invited to gather in the Center for Black Literature & Culture at Central Library. Sessions include time for writing, education and sharing.

3D Printing, March 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. Adults ages 18 and older are invited to learn the basics of 3D printing from concept to creation using Tinkercad and the 3D Systems Cube Printer. Dream it, design it, print it! This program is made possible by Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

JumpBunch Preschool Sports Programs – Superhero Sports, March 14 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Preschoolers ages 3 – 5 are invited to get ready to move with JumpBunch of Indianapolis. Leap ‘tall buildings,’ run ‘faster than a lightning bolt,’ or build strong muscles to ‘save the day!’

IndyPL Film QLUB, March 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. Adults and teens ages 17 and up are invited to view and discuss LGBTQ-themed movies. Films will be shown in Central Library’s Riley Meeting Room. The film to be shown is “Wigstock” (R).

Hot Jazz for Cool Kids, March 15 from 3 to 4 p.m. Children and families are invited to a series of free performances by Indy’s leading jazz musicians. It’s a way to share jazz music with children that will be fun for everyone! This program will feature a high-energy performance by the Cohen-Rutowski Project, with selections in the genre of New Orleans street grooves. Presented by the Learning Curve at Central Library in partnership with The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation and Indy Jazz Fest.

Teddy Bear Concert Series with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, March 20 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Preschoolers and kindergarteners with their families are invited to be introduced to the orchestra through story, movement and live music. ISO violinist Victoria Griswold has written each story, two of which are available as picture books, to be performed by five ISO musicians. Teddy bears welcome! The story to be performed is “The Runaway Strings.”

Shooter: Combat from Behind the Camera with Stacy Pearsall, March 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. Hear the story of independent photographer, author and military consultant Stacy Pearsall, a Bronze Star Medalist whose path to recovery from combat injuries in Iraq led to a new life mission, the Veterans Portrait Project. She’ll relate the stories of soldiers she’s documented through photography. This program, to be held in Central Library’s Clowes Auditorium, is presented by Roberts Camera, Nikon and the Library.

Celebrate the Seasons: Seasonal Crafting Program, March 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Adults are invited to join the librarians of Central Library to create gifts and decorations for home that can be enjoyed throughout the year. This program will be held the Library’s Makerspace.

Teen Cooking Made Easy: Skillet Cooking, March 24 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Teens are invited to learn to make simple one-dish meals in a skillet or crock pot and become the Skillet Chef of their homes! This program is presented by the Marion County Health Department Nutrition Services. 

Cricut Class, March 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Adults are invited to Central Library’s Makerspace to experience the fun of creating paper and fabric craft projects using a Cricut Maker electronic cutting machine. Basic materials will be provided.

How to Build a Nonprofit Organization Series – Volunteer Recruitment, Retention & More, March 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Learn best practices and proven methods to recruit and retain volunteers. Participants will receive tools to help guide the development of a strong and lasting volunteer workforce.

How to Build a Nonprofit Organization Series – Program Development, March 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Discover the main components of a solid program plan that will help provide quality service in your community. The seminar is best for those who have already established their nonprofit organization.

How to Build a Nonprofit Organization Series – Effective Grant Proposals and Management, March 28 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. This workshop will provide a practical approach to developing the most effective grant-seeking strategies. Learn useful tips on how to write compelling proposals and effective post-grant procedures. This seminar is best for those who have already established their nonprofit organization.

Slime Class for Kids, March 30 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Children and teens ages 6 – 17 are invited to create their own slime with Ripple Mobile Arts. Add beads, foam, clay or sand, choose a color, and practice many fun exercises with your new slime! This program will be held in the Learning Curve.

Baby ArtsPlay, March 2 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Babies and toddlers up to age 2 and an adult are invited to engage in storytelling and songs with sensory and motor skills, emergent language, spatial awareness, object permanence and body movement activities. Registration is required for each child attending. Parents need not register themselves. This program is presented by Arts for Learning teaching artist Amauunet Ashe.

Beginning Computer Classes: Copy, Paste, Print, March 12 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Adults are invited to learn how to copy, paste and print their cherished photos, clip art and other images into emails, Facebook and Microsoft Word.

Improve Your Credit Score, March 12 from 5 to 6 p.m. Adults are invited to a session on credit score remediation and monitoring presented by representatives from the Southeast Community Services who will help attendees acquire skills on managing this important financial score.

A Plethora of Computer Classes: Google Docs, March 18 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Adults are invited to learn about Google Docs, a free web-based application in which documents and spreadsheets can be created, edited and stored online. Files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection and a full-featured web browser.

Drawing Manga 101 for Kids and Teens, March 21 from 2 to 3 p.m. Kids and teens are invited to join Art With a Heart to learn the basics of Manga-style drawing and incorporate storytelling through the characters’ facial expressions. Each participant will take home a step-by-step Art With a Heart drawing booklet and a starter set of colored pencils.

Minecraft Club, March 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. Individuals of all ages are invited to join the Library’s Minecraft Club and participate in Minecraft activities with others.

Storybook Friends: Preschool Art Workshop, March 26 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Preschoolers ages 3 – 6 are invited to join Ripple Mobile Arts to explore their creative side as a little author. They’ll draw, color and create their own little books and make items for their creative designs. This program is inspired by the “Elephant & Piggie” books.

Teen Dungeons and Dragons, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Teens are invited to participate in this cooperative storytelling game. Attendees will play characters in this all-ages adventure, becoming the heroes of the story. Characters and materials will be provided.

Tortilla Cooking Class for Kids, March 30 from 2 to 3 p.m. Children ages 6 – 12 are invited to join Nutrition Services of the Marion County Health Department for a hands-on tortilla-making experience and cooking lesson.

Fruit and Veggie Yoga, March 5 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Preschoolers ages 3 – 6 are invited to join the Marion County Health Department for a fun and interactive read-aloud story program focused on gardening and plants. This will be followed by children learning yoga poses based on various fruits and veggies and a snack with healthy fruits or veggies.

Storytime at Spades Park, March 12 & 26 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Babies, toddlers and preschoolers and an adult are invited to meet Earl the Squirrel and his many friends for stories, crafts and songs, followed by playtime.

STEAM Saturday, March 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. School-aged children and teens are invited to participate in a hands-on STEAM program. They’ll have the chance to explore and play with new things in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art and math.
