THIS JUST IN: Presidential Site to help celebrate Veterans Day via virtual event

The Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site has invited Hoosiers to join the Old Northside museum home virtually for a 15-minute Veterans Day Salute to all American Veterans past and present at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The Presidential Site is organizing a live virtual event to encourage distanced participation with a far-reaching impact. They will be hosting the Indiana National Guard 38th Infantry Division Band live from their front porch in support of a tribute to all veterans – those still with us and those who have passed on.

The Presidential Site will broadcast the event on Facebook Live, but are asking music students and musically-inclined citizens across the State of Indiana to pick up their own instrument of choice and participate by playing Taps at exactly 9:00 pm from their own front porches. This will help make sure that veterans in every corner of the state hear these notes of appreciation.

The musical program will start at 8:45 p.m. with a musical salute to living veterans with the service songs of each branch of the Armed Forces broadcast from the Presidential Site. At 9 p.m., a lone bugler from the Indiana National Guard will sound Taps at the Presidential Site to honor all veterans who have passed on and they hope will be joined by musically inclined citizens statewide.

The Presidential Site hopes the bugle call inspires everyone who hears it to pause and reflect on the dedication and important service of our veterans, and how their efforts have helped preserve the American system of self-government.
