Two development firms playing musical chairs with headquarters

Renovation work is currently under way at the former Harrison College building – work which will allow Milhaus LLC to move its headquarters from Fletcher Place by the second quarter of 2023 to accommodate its expanding staffing needs.

At the same time, the Milhaus offices at 460 Virginia Ave. will become the new home of another development firm, Onyx + East. That firm is currently headquartered at 1812 Central Ave.

Milhaus’s move to the former Harrison College Site at 550 E. Washington St. will more than double the office space, reported Jourdan Woodruff, director of development operations for Milhaus. The firm’s current offices will accommodate 75 employees, while the new space will be able to house nearly 160 employees.

“We need more space,” she said. “We’ve been growing for a few years, so part of it is catching up on all the hires we’ve made in recent years … as well as considering future hiring.”

Milhaus will occupy about 28,500 square feet of space in the first two levels of the three-story building, Woodruff said. The third floor will be held for a possible future tenant.

The new headquarters will feature 16 conference rooms plus a few private offices.

Woodruff also noted that Milhaus, founded in Indianapolis, remains committed to its home city, even though it is opening offices in other states.

“We started here and our offices and headquarters are always going to be tied to Indy. We’re going to keep investing in the market,” she said. “Over the past few years, there’s been a lot of product near Downtown, so we have been really focusing on providing more unique opportunities that aren’t downtown, or even your typical suburban projects.”
